Meet Some of our New Lodge Managers

Singita Boulders Lodge

The Sand River

There are a number of special people in the world for whom living and working in the African bush is a lifelong dream. Being surrounded by nature, connecting with people from all walks of life, a passion for the continent and a sensitivity to the land, its animals and the communities who live in it, are all common attributes in these individuals. At Singita, we are thrilled to work with such people, a handful of whom have recently stepped into new roles as lodge managers in our South African properties.

Meet Some of our New Managers: Kobus De Kock at Singita Boulders Lodge

Kobus De Kock is the newly appointed manager at Singita Boulders Lodge, a tranquil oasis set along the banks of the Sand River. Born and bred in the Eastern Cape, Kobus grew up wanting to be a game ranger but landed up in hotel school, which serendipitously led him to a career in the bush. He has been with Singita for seven years, and describes his day-to-day role as a mixture of “walking, talking and entertaining with a bit of work in between!”

Meet Some of our New Managers: Chantelle Maritz at Singita Ebony Lodge

The other lodge in Singita Sabi Sand is Singita Ebony Lodge, the original property around which the company was built. The recently reinvented property is a fresh and contemporary interpretation of the classic safari lodge, combining tented camp and bush lodge style. Heading up the team there is Chantelle Maritz, a Capetonian who came to Singita as a student on a practical and never left. She counts a close encounter with a curious leopard near the lodge as one her wildlife highlights, and is well known for her contagious smile and quiet efficiency.

Meet Some of our New Managers: Lauren Crewe-Brown and Brett Applegryn at Singita Kruger National Park

Further north at Singita Kruger National Park you will find Lauren Crewe-Brown, manager at Singita Sweni Lodge. Born in Johannesburg but raised in Botswana, Lauren grew up with a strong appreciation for the bush, which “has always been home to [her].” Brett Applegryn is next door at Singita Lebombo Lodge, and shares a similar passion for wildlife and the environment. He describes working at Singita as “a dream” and particularly loves the sociable aspect of the job, which involves meeting lots of different types of people.
